Poltergeists...Demonic or Human Influence?
Poltergeists...Demonic or Human Influence?
By Lana J. Brock
I often wonder about the usage of the word "poltergeist". This word comes from German origin which means "noisy ghost". "Poltern:" means to create a disturbance. "Geist" means ghost. Therefore Poltergeist for the noisy ghost. However, as often as the word has been used to blame an evil spirit, we don't always capture or witness the evidence of such to suggest an "evil" spirit is intelligently responsible or responsive. Usually poltergeist activity surrounds a teenager, a person with erratic emotional eruptions and upset households. Characterizations often include loud banging noises, glass breaking, objects thrown across a room, or items disappearing and reappearing in other locations. Levitation may even fall under this activity. An unseen spirit which seems to have the ability to move objects; which include people.
When I go into a situation where a poltergeist has become the blame of all activity in an upset household I make certain to gather the facts about each member of that household first. While we consider a poltergeist as being the blame of such chaotic activity we must also include the possibility of other options; which may include human manipulation and influence. When I say this, I do not mean the trickery and foolery of an individual to convince others of paranormal activity for attention.
What I refer to is telekinesis. Telekinesis is where human beings may have the potential to move objects physically without physically coming in contact with those objects. This is a mental ability which may be used to control objects on a subatomic level, even without the conscious awareness of the one causing objects to move. This ability currently is studied as a metaphysical and paranormal science. However, there may be options of physical sciences to consider where human energy is concerned. We know that the human body generates energy with every movement. This energy is enough to power a light bulb or our laptop computers. We certainly can study and observe this kind of human battery type energy. It makes me consider notions I have never thought of before. Telekinesis (where the mind directs where the energy may go whether or not a person is consciously aware)...and human battery energy, (that energy our bodies generate). The possibilities of how this may affect people with a more potent telekinetic ability in a chaotic and emotionally eruptive environment could be considered a reason for this unexplained movement of objects.
Both of these, telekinesis and poltergeist activity have similar characteristics. Both involve moving objects, creating loud noises, destroying property. The only issue with these is determining really who or what is responsible. Really, both subjects are equally paranormal except one is of spiritual concern (demonic); the other is unintentional levitation of objects, (human telekinesis).
I am one of those who is quite happy to consider both. I am also willing to accept that both can be responsible. However, I doubt that both would contribute simultaneously such disturbances. I tend to believe the levitation of objects is demonic in nature. Humans don't quite have the knack for controlled levitation or telekinesis. However, telekinesis could still be in operation with the clients being unaware of their abilities. So it is still a possible contender as an explanation for the misplacement or destruction of objects. Perhaps more than one individual in the household has this ability. The more of those in a location which has this ability, the more potent the energy may manifest. It could even be quite dangerous,
Just the same, if a demonic entity be responsible for the destruction of property, levitation of objects and people; then this is equally disturbing. People tend to assign blame to demons more than they should, as they do not first consider other natural or even psychic human abilities. I tend to lean towards demonic infiltration when I see other evidences of demonic activity. This would include witnessing a black mass, or an undefinable creature, lights zig zagging about the room, smelling foul odors, hearing guttural growls...alongside the movement of heavy objects.
I don't have all the answers. Yet I do enjoy thinking outside the box of what is traditionally accepted. We definitely cannot move forward in this field of the paranormal until we dare ourselves to offer several different options and modes of thought. Please feel free to comment below on what you feel is "poltergeist" activity. We would love to have many different thoughts about this subject.
